2010 Professional Development Committee

Mission
Focus the training and professional development need of MLGMA members and monitor the
Association’s Public Administration Institute. In addition, the Committee will review other
training needs and opportunities and make recommendations to the MLGMA Board. To contact the Professional Development Committee, send an email to development@mlgma.org.Â
Goals and Objectives
1. Continue efforts to promote the scholarship program.
2. Target training efforts at core competencies. Continue to work with the Winter and Summer Institute committees.
3. Develop opportunities for women, minorities, assistants as well as those involved in other professional disciplines that would aspire to be City Manager. Look for the MLGMA to network with other professional associations of the Michigan Municipal League: MAFC, MACP, APWA, AWWA as well as national organizations to support persons interested in improving their professional levels to that of city management.
4. Promote and encourage credentialing. Look to encourage those in the other disciplines to also position themselves to seek credential status.
5. Continue to encourage participation in the Local Government Management Initiative with University of Michigan-Dearborn.
6. Develop mentoring/coaching programs similar to the California model.
